The YPJ and the Question of Integration
The YPJ are part of the Syrian Democratic Forces (QSD/SDF) and gained international recognition during the fight against the so-called Islamic State (IS). For tens of thousands of women in Northern and Eastern Syria, the YPJ are far more than a militia. They embody a political project that has enabled women’s protection, self-determination, and social participation. Today, the threats to the YPJ are multifaceted.
